Easy Cleaning Schedule

I can’t remember exactly where I was or what I was doing, but I do remember that my house was a mess and I should have been cleaning it instead of being on Facebook (show of hands: Who can relate? All of you? Great).  Eventually, I got to it, only to become overwhelmed at the amount of crap that is involved on a daily basis when it comes to cleaning a household of 5 (did I mention I’m the only female?).  Oh – and we have a dog.  Not just any dog – an English Bulldog.  Let me tell you about English Bulldogs.  They’re awesome and I’d get another one in a heartbeat.  With that being said, they’re also kind of gross.  They’re slobber machines.  Ours likes to rub against the furniture and leave his slime trail of drool so that you know he was there.  It’s his way of saying, “Yo.  When you see this, just know that I was here, and I’m waiting for you to come pet me. Deuces.”  Needless to say, he makes it even more imperative to keep up on my housecleaning.

I think I gave up cleaning after about an hour.  There was just so much to do!  The issue that I ran into was that I just didn’t know how to prioritize everything.  So, I took a break and began to feel like a failure of a wife and mother (not really, I’m pretty damn good at it).  Really, I got on Pinterest.  I knew that there had to be some type of cleaning schedule out there that I could tweak somewhat to make it work with my crazy schedule so that I wouldn’t lose my mind.  Of course, there were quite a few.  Some were just downright crazy, and might work if you want to spend an ungodly amount of time cleaning your house, which I don’t.  Most of them included things that I just wasn’t about to do (like hose out my garage on Saturdays – I live in Michigan and it’s snowing. I’m not trying to turn my garage into an ice rink).  So, I sat down and created my own schedule.  We have been using this in our household for about a month now, and it’s been working wonders!  It’s not too much for each day, and the weekends can either be used for catch-up or relaxing, which is nice, especially for those days when I might just really need a break for some QT with the kiddos, studying, or creating this blog. ;).

Cleaning Chart

In our home, we have all hardwood flooring except for one bedroom, which is why I put an asterisk next to vacuum.  If you have hardwood flooring like I do, I usually wait until Friday to mop BUT I still sweep on the assigned cleaning day when you would normally vacuum (especially with children and a slobber-monster dog).  🙂

I hope this helps!
